When it comes to rooftop equipment screens, traditional HSS framing isn’t the only option, and it’s rarely the most cost-effective one.

RoofScreen’s engineered framing systems offer a smart alternative to conventional HSS equipment screen framing, combining structural integrity with significant material and labor savings.

Custom designed equipment screen blends in with building design

High Strength. Simplified.

Unlike traditional HSS framing, which typically requires field welding, heavier materials and more complex installation, RoofScreen systems are designed for simplicity.

Our frames attach directly to the roof deck using Tek screws and our patented leak-free base attachments. This streamlined approach reduces material costs, time on site, engineering complexity and labor requirements.

33% Material Cost Savings on City Hall Project

In a direct comparison on a high-occupancy City Hall project located in a moderately high wind zone, RoofScreen’s heavy-duty frame system delivered a 33% reduction in framing material costs compared to a traditional HSS approach.

To keep the comparison conservative and fair, both systems were designed with 6-foot on-center spacing to align with rooftop joists. A heavy-duty RoofScreen frame, chosen specifically to match the performance of the HSS system, still came in significantly under budget in terms of material.

The table below illustrates cost savings, framing, installation and warranty details.

Comparison Details

This comparison focused solely on the price of framing materials. It does not include additional costs that often drive up the price of HSS including field welding, installation complexity, structural reinforcement and roofing work.

RoofScreen’s system on this project requires no structural reinforcement, keeping labor and engineering costs down.

This comparison exercise shows how RoofScreen’s systems can meet or exceed performance requirements while delivering measurable cost advantages over conventional HSS framing without compromising on quality, aesthetics or durability.
